It is random and one-to-one like every other OpenTalk mode, and the match card still shows a nickname, age, country and language, so you have a rough idea of who you are about to hear. Without a camera to fuss over, a lot of the usual self-consciousness simply melts away.

Messy hair, a dark room, the end of a long shift. Voice mode covers every moment you feel like talking but not like being looked at. When the other person speaks another language, you are not stuck either. Messages typed during a call can be translated with one tap, so the two of you can write down the words neither can pronounce.

Voice chat lives or dies on audio. Before your first OpenTalk voice match, find a spot without a humming fridge or a TV in the background, and hold the phone the way you would for a normal call rather than at arm's length.

If your match sounds robotic or keeps dropping out, the problem is usually their connection rather than yours. Mention it kindly, and if nothing improves, press next; nobody has to sit through a bad line.
